Police Local Control

OBS is glad that other elected officials are finally joining our long and hard-fought struggle to return the St. Louis Police Department back to the citizens. At a recent hearing from HB 1601 introduced by Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, such officials lined up to give testimony in support of local control.

The bill will return the local control to the Department of Public Safety based upon the City Charter. That's a concern given there's an incompetent director there now (charles bryson) appointed by an incompe-tent mayor (slay). It is what it is. It's the duty of citizens to make sure the checks n balances are in place for transparency and accountability.

Stay tuned for updates about the local control bills and how you can add your voice to the growing movement for local control of our tax-paid police dept.

Hope Whitehead's Swearing in

OBS endorsed Hope Whitehead in her bid to fill the vacated seat in the 57th District in a February Special Election.
   From the OBS endorsement statement...
“Hope’s legal and professional background will allow her to hit the ground running,” says Kalimu Endesha, Field Organizer for the Organization for Black Struggle. “She’s acutely aware of the issues facing our community; we will have an informed ally in the state legislature”.
