Board of Education Elects Officers

St. Louis--June 17, 2008--The Board of Education held its annual election of officers tonight at its meeting at the Gateway School complex on Jefferson. The board will meet at Gateway, which is one block north of Carr Lane, during the summer while Carr Lane is undergoing renovations.

The new officers for 2008-09 are
President Peter Downs
Vice President David Jackson
Secretary Donna Jones

Downs and Jackson were elected to their second terms. Jones replaced Flint Fowler as secretary. continued >>

better known as

 THE ROSE MAN

 

 

Brother Nixon is loved by thousands in the metro area for helping our dates or relationships with a simple rose. The Rose Man was a fixture in the clubs and lounges where brothers and sisters were socializing bringing love and respect.

He was killed by misguided bullets of a misguided young, black male.

  One of the first pieces of advice I gave to Mayor Freeman Bosley Jr. as his commissioner of youth was to purge the promotion of boot camps that I had heard him reference in a mayoral presentation. I told him that lining up non-violent teens at 5 a.m. to bark berating and obscene verbal assaults does not change behavior. In fact, not only does the environment lend itself to verbal, physical and sexual abuse by staff, it causes youth to become more aggressive, and recidivism rates do not drop.                 continued >>
